6 Saying where someone comes from

So far you have been talking about places, but what about the people who come from these places?

You already know Das ist …, which you can use for introducing a person. And then you could say:

• Er kommt aus … He comes from …
• Sie kommt aus … She comes from …

And you may also want to introduce yourself:

• Mein Name ist … My name is …
• Ich komme aus … I come from …

How would you introduce yourself? Give some details about where you are from – a town, region, country. Check the German spelling of your place of origin in an online dictionary (there you can usually check the pronunciation too). Write your answer in your notebook. Why not add your favourite greeting? Record yourself – don’t worry if your recording isn’t perfect the first time. Try it a few times until you are happy with the results.
