Learning outcomes

This week we will consider whether Dave should or even can trust the forensic evidence.

This means having confidence in how potential evidence has been identified, recorded, retrieved, and collected from the scene. It also means how it is analysed and how the data from these tests are interpreted and evaluated by the police in their investigations.

At the end of the week, you should be able to:

  • better understand when to trust forensic science evidence at the crime scene
  • understand how forensic science evidence is used
  • examine the meaning of quality standards in forensic science laboratories
  • differentiate between trusting the police investigator, the science and the scientist.
