Design Summer School
This course has been created for design students who would like to develop skills in using one of the software packages which are part of most designers toolkit. It is always easier to learn something if you have a focus, so we have set a couple challenges to help you to have something to work towards.
Your learning will take place largely on your own and at your own pace, using the training materials provided by the software companies themselves. However, to support you we will hold weekly meetings each week in August at which you can meet with the others on the course and discuss how things are going. You will also be able to use the course forum to talk to one another and also discuss issues with a tutor. You are expected to come to these meetings (but if there is a problem with one you can let us know), we will try to set times to suit everyone.
Each week you will be asked to share your work on OpenDesignStudio too.
If you would like to work with other people on this, that is good too. Most design contexts require team working so this is a valuable experience. It may be that you could each use different pieces of software and combine your efforts to present your response to the design challenge in more than one way, for example using photoshop to create a poster and CAD software to create a 3D model.
On completion of this module you will receive a badge to say that you have successfully finished it. You will also receive feedback on what you have achieved.
To complete this course it will take about 30 hours spread across four weeks in August.
