Inclusive teaching

Inclusive teaching (the term alone is very well known and used in most schools and in our classrooms) yet most of us teachers do not apply it in our daily today activities. This may be done knowingly or unknowingly.

Knowingly means a teacher has resources and has the knowladge that a child has a special need that needs to be taken into consideration but for some reason just ignores or failing to do simple things like positioning a child who has visual impairment into the right sitting place in a class.

Unknowingly means, the teacher has no control over the situation since the right materials are not provided for the teacher to use while in class.

That is true Cathrine.  Teachers may exclude students either knowingly or unknowingly by not doing the right things in the classroom or basically the resources may not be there to enable you to do the needful.  In either case students get affected since they are automatically excluded from learning as they were supposed to.

The purpose of this course is to help avoid the 'unknowingly' exclusions by providing teachers with the tools to teach a large class for example, or to improvise materials.

Thank you for your contributions.

Knowing what to do and doing them are critical to making education inclusive and impactful. The aspect of improvising will go a long way to address some of the challenges being faced currently.

Thank you for this.

True Agunbiade. Knowledge on inclusive teaching and learning and doing it is crucial to teachers and teacher educators. Many may exclude learners due to lack of knowledge.
