LCE Challenges

One of the challenge that is relevant to my context is the issue of large classes and crowded learning condition. In the university where i work this is a very serious, you see a single lecturer teaching a class of over  300 students especially for those handling the year one science students.  I think this can be addressed by having more lecture room and employing more staff.

Bilkisu -I agree. I think very large classes is an issue for many of us. Have you ever tried pair work? Pausing in your exposition to allow students to discuss an open question and then collecting a few responses can be effective in terms of promoting active involvement. Let us know how you get on if you try it....

A very good suggestion there Kris. But how do you start to pair 300 students? I have a class of 130 students taking CSC112: Computer Applications, I am having a tough time grouping them to do hands-on in group and also supervising each group. Can you provide more suggestions pls, Kris.
