Advice on Wrong Teaching Behaviours

Advice on Wrong behaviours

Choose two of the ‘wrong’ behaviours (i.e. 1,4,5,7,8,10). What advice would you give to a teacher who persistently uses those approaches for long periods of time?

Behaviour 5: Teachers always stands at the front

Teachers should only stand in the front when he/she wants to assess the level of participation of learners when writing a test or when answering an open ended question. A learner that is not participating can be spotted distracting other learners’ attention or doing something completely unrelated to lesson. The teacher can take appropriate steps to correct this.

Behaviour 10: Teachers always use closed questions with yes no right or wrong answer

A teacher that wants to use closed questions should turn it into a debate where learners defend their answers with evidence. This will help students to think critically before answer any question and also help them to discuss freely without feeling afraid to give wrong answers
