The story of Molly highlights the importance of the teacher for inclusive education. Through the teacher's patience, observation skills, interest in all the learners and sound community relations, Molly was kept in her school, enjoyed learning with her colleagues and got every teacher to rally behind Molly when she would have been sent to a special needs school. There were Wave 1, 2 and 3 issues regarding Molly. Through Clifford's personal leadership as a classroom practitioner, Molly had Wave 2 interventions which prevented her from being transferred to a special school and improved her welfare through specialist devices and other interventions by the teacher and classmates (change of sitting position to near the board, large print by the teacher on the board, collaborative learning by sitting at a desk with another 3 learners to work together, more discussion work than writing). This transformed the learning environment to more inclusive and Molly was exposed to Wave 1 learning experiences. I have learnt that a learner with a disability can function effectively in mainstream learning environment as long as the teacher has the right attitude.
