There are several challenges hindering implementation of LCE. Critical among them being failure to prioritise time and resources. Teachers generally look at LCE as time and resource consuming and therefore opt to continue with old teaching methods which are teacher and subject centred, which normally do not cater for the learners' interests and aptitudes. To solve this challenge, there is need first and foremost to cultivate a change in the mind set of all those involved in children's learning. Key participants like teachers, headteachers and parents require serious orientation on LCE for them to be supportive and come up with local school and community initiatives that can lead to successful implementation. For instance, the headteacher and staff can equittably share school time and resources in such a way that LCE programmes are given fair share. To overcome the challenge of resources which often is used as an excuse, the school and community can come up with innovations using locally available materials to make teaching and learning materials for implementation of LCE.
