Activity 2.3. Where are you on the line?

As an elementary teacher I am a bit both extrinsic and intrinsic learner motivation. I control my classroom by giving instructions and at the same time give students the ability to discover thing on their own. Students complete class projects, discussions, role play scenarios, and interact with social activities. There is also a mutual respect in both teacher and students relationship.

I place myself in the middle of the line. I place myself in such position, because I certainly believe that I am a mixture of the two. Being an elementary teacher, my students learn with  individual cognitive activities and also learn with social activities, where the things they learn, they are able to relate them in their everyday experiences.

My practices are considered learner centered. I allow students to bring their own knowledge, past experiences, their own level of education and ideas into the classroom. Students are given the opportunity to share their own knowledge.

Activity 2.3 Where are you on the line?

This is a very interesting question because it gives me an opportunity to reflect on my teaching style and technique.

I see myself in between the line and in some cases I divert both to the left and to the right but again I have learnt and aspire to divert more to the right.

As a secondary school teacher, i try to try to prepare my lessons with the needs of the students in mind.

I use learning materials/ resources that motivates the learners and captures their attention. The use of positive reinforcement stimulates learners.

Planning and using learning activities where no learner is left out helps to achieve learning objectives.

Sure Rose, elementary classes are LC and very intersting to attend. The learners hardly tire of intearcting, either with materials provided or each other as well as the teacher who is forever on the feet. At the University, it is the opposite. Most lecturers have an attitude that their students are adults who are capable of doing their own research hence they come to class for 2or 3 hour lectures and they are freed to go fill in the gaps on their own. Occassionlly, i try to be at the centre and a few students will meet me there and such times are very interesting indeed.
