Resource 1: Planning Lessons
· Write a sentence to summarise one thing you have learned from this resource
A good lesson plan includes some in-built flexibility, helps to make lessons clear and well-timed, make students active
and interested, thereby involving all. .
· In the context of your subject, explain how you could use this idea in a lesson.
Planning is a continual process to help you prepare individual lessons as well as series of lessons, each one building on the last. I have selected ‘Planning Lessons’ because it provides the opportunity to monitor my effectiveness as a teacher. Planning is all encompassing, and must be specific to students’ needs, measurable to know progress made in the continuum, attainable based on students assessed needs, relevant to the context in which teaching and learning is taking place, time-bound to the extent that supporting any child with any identified needs is done without delay. None of the key resources can be effective without adequate planning. For instance, ‘Talk for Learning’ a teacher must plan ahead of time what to do to make pupils talk in class with confidence requires planning the lesson around what you want the students to learn and think about, as well as what type of talk you want them to develop.
What cannot be measured cannot be monitored. Monitoring my plan will help me as a teacher to measure how I am doing in the continuum, and where and what to adjust in my lesson delivery.Name the section:
Evidence to Support the Promotion of School-Based Teacher Development
Write a sentence to summarise one thing you have learned from this resource
I have learnt the four broad strategies for teachers which leads to success in the process of learning. These are: training to prepare teachers with poor teaching skills, widening teachers’ professionalism, improving teachers’ classroom effectiveness and peer collaboration.
In the context of your subject, explain how you could use this idea in a lesson.Training is an integral part of every successful program, for any teacher to involve all students in the learning process, the teacher has to have the requisite skills. With good support, teachers can have a very effective class and learning process. For me, the peer group collaboration is an important step towards involving all my students in inclusive learning. It provides an atmosphere for the weaker students to be assisted by their peers.

Improving students’ performance involves constantly monitoring and responding to them, so that they know what is expected and they get feedback after completing tasks. These will help them improve their performance through the teacher’s constructive feedback. These feedbacks also help in extending learning.

Section name:
Being a Resourceful Teacher in Challenging Conditions
Write a sentence summarising something you have learnt from this resource
I have learned that in challenging conditions it is necessary to make the most of the resources available in the context, both from the environment, the local community and the media, and the value of opening the school to the community by understanding the school as a resource for the benefit of all, not just for the students.
In the context of your subject, explain how you could use this idea in a classroom.
In my context, although conditions are not difficult, I think it would also be very interesting to make the most of the local community as a medium for teaching. I very much agree that families and others are an important source for giving historical context, for remembering how things were in the past and for giving opinions on everyday issues. In addition, it is very interesting for me to make more use of existing communication systems to stimulate debate and discussion.

Julia, just as you have rightly mentioned, even in the most difficult situations, it is possible to make most use of the available resources within your context in the learning process. This would even make learners identify with the resources since they are familiar with them which will ultimately aid their learning.

Quite true Olalusi. Lesson planning is key for effective teaching since it helps the lesson activities to flow systematically in order for learners to attain the lesson objectives.
