Activity 2.4 Attitude towards learners

According to Daniel leraner capacity is interpreted as a earners ability to learn. Daniel believes that any child is able to learn as oppossed to what most teachers beleieve that some are more capable thatn others and most of the time teachers, parents and the community at large think that children with special needs are not capable of learning and are much slower because of their special needs.

Daniel states that there are some cultural attitudes which need to be challenged. Most backgorunds that Daniel mention believe that children with special needs are as a result of demons, bad omen, curses and that the "disbality" is contagious. This makes parents fear or not want the children to mingle with the others.

My personal experience has been one in which I was in Standard five and one leaner was Epileptic. Most children were affraid of learning together with this particular learner. I took the initiate of asking my father to explain to me what epilepsy was and when he did, he gave practical examples of how I could be of help to the learner. The next day ,I asked the teacher to allow me to seat with the learner and the teacher allowed me to do so. We sat at the back to prevent the learner from hitting himelf on objects. The teacher took the initiative to explain to us on how we could all learn together. I learned so much from my deskmate actually.
