What the Wave model means to me

The wave model proposed a graduated response to inclusion and places the child at the center.

Wave 1 focuses on mainstream classrooms and the things that every teacher can do to include children using what is available to improve teaching and learning for all including those with disabilities. The universal

The wave 2 :requires professionals to work together to develop inclusive force which includes all stake holders (parent, teacher, child, ability groups etc). It focuses on targeted support that some children need to access learning and happens at the same time with wave 1 strategies.

The model recognized that children with disabilities and who are at risk of being excluded from accessing the mainstream quality teaching can work at and above their peers, but to do so they will need intervention and additional support that the children need to access the universal.

The wave 3 specialized support is needed where it is recognized that a small amount of children will need specialist support to access the curriculum. In this wave, highly tailored intervention to support children to reach their true potential are formulated and implemented.
