Being excluded

As a child I was not allowed to go to a street party with my older sister and cousin because of my age. I felt hurt and did not understand why as my friends were allowed to attend the party.

I share a similar sentiment. I think being a female child is even more difficult. The boys always get away with everything!

Feeling Excluded

Dear Jenice,

The sentiments shared were not part of my upbringing. In our household, boys and girls were treaded the same regarding chores, and other activities/opportunities. I learned of this sort of thinking and behaviour as an adult. In a way this made me feel unprepared for life outside of my home, feelings of exclusion emerged because there was that consciousness of being different.
