Activity 3.5

Primary Maths video

The teacher could have used resources if available to have the students more engaged instead of 'chalk and talk'. The teacher did have the students interactive however, the use of more visuals or even music to capture the students' attention would improve the lesson as students learn differently.

Hi Sasha, you are correct that's a nice observation.

That is true, chalk and talk does not engage students and create an environment where students are motivated, but in this case they were interactive.

I noticed the teacher in the Math video did have the ice cream sticks he used for himself, while this was good to have the visual and concrete resources, he could have provided for all students to use and do counting on their own or in groups. These resources need not be expensive, they could be bottle caps, beans, sticks or even small pebbles.
