Activity 3.8 – Supporting Learners with Specific Needs in a Mainstream Classroom.

Reflection: ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

I had a pupil with ADHD in my class about three years ago. I did not know how to cope with this student. I got the support of my colleagues and I did some research by reading about ADHD.

I placed the child close to my table, away from windows and the door to limit his distraction. I rewarded his good behavior and provided feedback for the work that was completed.

I gave him simple task like sharing out Activity Sheets or returning books to students.

I reduced his workload by breaking it down into manageable tasks.

He was a joy to have in class and the other children worked well with him when he was paired up or in small groups.
