Minimum criteria and Learner-centered teaching

As teachers we feel like when we are in control or when we do all the talking or explanation learning is taking place and it is not when we assess the child we find out that they didn't grasp some aspect of the content. Therefore, it is very important while teaching is to engage students in discussion, group work activities so they can come up with their own interpretation/show their understanding. Most importantly especially when giving instructions check to see if student understand, checking for understanding is key. As a teacher I would encourage a lot of hands on activities and group work however, with a purpose and making sure everyone have a task to do.
