The Cognitive Narrative suggests that when activities and
lessons are based on learner capabilities and interests, are more problem
solving-based and shows how it can be applied to their everyday lives, learners
would be more actively engaged thus making learning more meaningful to them.
The Preparation Narrative suggests that LCE is believed to
support the development of ‘21st Century skills’ such as critical
thinking, flexibility, and independent research which would reduce the reliance
on the teacher and textbooks. This would further encourage learners to be more
collaborative as well as to be more independent.
The Emancipatory Narrative is based on protecting learners’
rights and helping to develop the skills and attitudes that would promote
democratic citizenship by putting more decisions into learners’ hands through the
use of more learner centred approaches.
I place them
in this order as I believe that in order for anyone, be it child or adult, to
want to learn something you first need to be interested in what you learn, it should then make you to want to find out more about the topic and you should be able to learn in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
