MND What can I do?

A diagnosis of MND is one of the very worst illnesses anyone can experience, my husband was diagnosed with (MND/ALS) in January 2026 after several months of declining physical health from July 2025.

The MND diagnosis has destroyed many of our plans, our & our families hopes & dreams for the future…MND can be viewed as a living hell from which I continue to observe the love of my life (my childhood sweetheart) slowly but steadily decline & waste away in front of my eyes through an unyielding & relentless untreatable terminal illness.. There is currently no cure and there is therefore no time to waste.

There is little I can do but try to provide what my husband with what he wants & needs, to make the best of what time we have remaining, which includes studying this course. I do what I can to try to make him comfortable & help him remain cheerful with love & affection.. I try to give him his favourite foods (whilst he can still eat them) & listen to his wonderful collection of music & favourite films..

I have begun to create a wall of his & our lives, our life’s pleasures, our loves & memories.

His walls will contain all that I can find to display around him (at home) in his hospital bed, with the machines that help him to breath, the wheelchairs, the commodes & ever increasing supply of medicines & medical equipment .

Walls containing a visual reflection of his life, the people we love, loved & have lost & the people that loved us. The walls will reflect his passions & interests, pictures of his/our achievements & places we have visited or frequented.. Surrounding him with love, a little humour & meaningful objects, including family pictures (old & new), selective books (poetry & humour) and much loved games…

I hope to provoke & stimulate his memories & his thoughts, I hope to afford him some distraction from the illness, from this awful reality & the cruel foreshortened end to his life (& our lives with him)…

I hope to stimulate his mind & his memories to create some joy, comfort & conversation for the limited time we have remaining in an otherwise very tragic & personally painful situation….
