Activity 2.5 Influences and choices

Timing: Time: 10–15 minutes

This activity can be done as part of the same timeline group session, or learners may choose to do this individually in their Reflection Log. Using the same software or other methods suggested for Activity 2.2, they can create a spider diagram of their influences and choices.

This is a spider diagram. The centre box is ‘Lesley’. Lines out from ‘Lesley’ lead to nine different boxes each with text about factors that influence her life. These are listed here as they appear in a clockwise direction starting from the top. Box 1: Carers centre staff and other carers; Box 2: Children’s needs – health, education, childcare; Box 3: Lesley’s own health; Box 4: Rural location – transport options; Box 5: Opportunities for study, distance learning, local college; Box 6: At a cross roads, what to do?; Box 7: Financial situation. Box 7 has a sub-box: Job availability and flexibility; Box 8: Time restraints, e.g. school holidays; Box 9: Lesley’s qualifications and work experience.
