Chapter 25 Special Topics
I don't believe in fixed methods. I use methods simply to push you into a very chaotic consciousness, because the first thing I need to do to you as you are now is disrupt your entire pattern. You've become very fixed, very rigid; you must become more and more like a liquid, more and more fluid. Unless you become like a river, you will never know that divinity—because it's not a thing, it's an event. You cannot seek that divinity; it cannot be sought because you can only seek what you already know. Seeking is wanting to obtain, and you cannot seek the unknown. You don't even know what it is, so how can you seek it? Only after you've tasted it, known it, even just glimpsed it, will there be an urgency to seek. Therefore, that divinity cannot be sought. However, when I say that divinity cannot be sought, it doesn't mean it cannot be discovered. It cannot be sought, but it can be discovered.
The more you seek it, the less likely you are to find it. If you seek it, you will never find it, because the seeking itself becomes an obstacle. Therefore, do not seek what you do not know; instead, delve into what you already know. Do not crave the unknown; delve into the known. When you delve into the known, you will accidentally discover the doors to the unknown, because the known is truly the door to the unknown. So, delve deeper.
For example: you cannot seek that divinity, but if you have ever loved, then you know love. So go into love. When you go into love, somewhere, loving and being loved no longer exist, and that divinity appears.
Therefore, instead of seeking divinity, go into what is real, known, and close to you. Don't look far and wide for what's near; start with what's close. We are so eager to go far that we never take the first step, a step that can begin near. We demand the last step first, but you can't take the last step right from the start. You must first take the first step, which is here and now, but we are concerned with what is then and what is later.
Seeking means seeking in time; searching is a postponement, a huge postponement, because seeking is always in the future; it can never be in the present. How can you seek here and now? There is no space. You can exist in this very moment, but you cannot seek. So it is the seeking mind itself that creates time, because time is necessary, only then can you seek.
That's why those who seek Moksha, freedom, absolute freedom, must create the concept of reincarnation. More time is needed; one lifetime isn't enough, many lifetimes are required. Only then, within this endless time, within the space created by time, can you move. If you want to find the absolute, a moment isn't enough; of course, one lifetime isn't enough either.
But regardless of East or West, as long as you have desires, you create time. Time is the fourth dimension of space; it is a form of space. Without time, your desires cannot act. Therefore, any desire will inevitably create time and the future, and in this way, you can delay the present moment. The present moment is not actually time, but existence.
So it's best to delve into what you already know, into what you consider life itself. Go deep into it, whatever it may be, go deep. Don't just skim the surface, go down to its deepest level. And once you start going deep, falling deep inside, you'll reach a different level. This isn't about going into the future, it's about going into the present, into this very moment.
For example, you're listening to me. You might just be superficially listening, using only your ears. That's the first level of listening. You might say, "Of course I'm listening." But only your ears are listening, only your body is listening; your mind might be somewhere else. But if you can go deeper, you can listen very attentively, and your mind will participate, allowing you to delve deeper into this moment. However, even if your mind is involved, your presence might not be. If you're considering what I'm saying, then your mind is involved, but there's a deeper depth; your presence might not even be there. There might be unconscious undercurrents, and because of these undercurrents, you can't be there. You can go even deeper, which means you can immerse yourself completely, body and soul. At that point, you're empty, not thinking about anything. Your body is here, your mind is here, your presence is here, all concentrated in one point, and that's how you go deep.
So whatever you're doing right now, delve deeper. The deeper you go, the closer you get to the unknown. The unknown isn't the opposite of the known; it's something hidden within the known, which is merely a veil.
Do not go into the future, do not seek. Simply be here. In seeking, you will scatter yourself; but in being, you are intense, and that intensity, that complete intensity in this moment, will lead you to a kind of crystallization. In that complete, intense moment, you exist. That being, that occurrence of being, becomes a door. You have found it without seeking, you can obtain it without even seeking.
