Chapter 22 Seeds of the Future

You recently talked about science and how we could produce a new kind of human being—smarter, more creative, healthier, and freer. It sounds fascinating, but also frightening, because of the sense of mass production. Could you talk about the fears I feel?

It is indeed very appealing, but there is no need to be afraid of it. In fact, what we have been doing for millions of years is mass production—unplanned mass production.

Do you know what kind of child you will give birth to? Do you know that he/she will be blind, disabled, mentally challenged, sick, fragile, and susceptible to various diseases for life? Does your partner know what he/she is doing? When you make love, you don't have any preconceived notions, not even the possibility of guessing. You are giving birth as naturally as animals give birth; you don't find it sacred, you don't feel any fear. You can see the whole world filled with mentally challenged, disabled, blind, and deaf people—all this garbage! Who is responsible for it? Isn't it mass-produced?

My scientific concept of production is to consciously, alertly, and mindfully bring a visitor into this world. We know who he is, what he is, what he will become, how long he will live, and how much intelligence he will possess. Whether physically or psychologically, we will eliminate all possibilities such as blindness, deafness, and intellectual disability, and are you afraid of that? Don't be so foolish.

Having children scientifically is not like having children like animals. When you have children scientifically, you are transcending animals. It is very attractive; it is the greatest and most attractive thing. We can manipulate it; it is already a scientific fact. We can arrange to give birth to healthier people who can live as long as we expect, and we can give them as much intelligence as possible to cope with their work.

A couple came to a science lab saying they wanted a child like Einstein, but even better—a child who would live to be two hundred, very strong, and never get sick. The lab would find suitable eggs and sperm from a bank, and the child would be created in a test tube under strict environmental control.

You have to adopt a child; you can't make children. Making children is like animals. Adopt a child of your imagination… Everyone wants to give birth to a Shakespeare, wants their child to be a great poet, a great musician, or a great dancer. Every mother wants her child to be a superhuman in some way, but every mother is disappointed, every child proves to be bad, just lost in the masses on this overpopulated planet—it's mass production. But with adoption, you can first think about all the qualities you need, you can consult experts to see which qualities will help in his life, see how much love he can have… Do you want a Romeo? Then you can have a Romeo; it's just a matter of chemistry. Romeo has more testosterone than other men; his hormones are more abundant, so one woman isn't enough for him.

Do you want a poet who surpasses all poets of the past? Do you want a scientist who makes all previous scientists seem like dwarfs compared to him? Do you want a musician who can bring you the unknown and the unseen through his voice? Do you want a singer who can sing songs of unprecedented joy and celebration? You can ask for anything, and they must do it. They must calculate which woman's egg and which man's sperm can create such a person. That sperm isn't yours, that egg isn't your wife's, and that child is adopted. In this way, you can obtain what humanity has always dreamed of: the birth of a superman, a man almost made of steel. Your boxing champion Muhammad Ali will be no match for him; one punch to the nose, and he's finished.

What scares you? Don't you want to transcend animality? That desire to have it be your sperm and your wife's egg is ugly. Children belong to the universe. What's so special about your sperm? Does it make sense to create a crippled person just because it's your sperm? Science can elevate you above animality. It's not mass production; quite the opposite. There won't be a production line like manufacturing cars. It will be highly personalized, because every couple can choose, freely deciding what kind of child they want. How did this concept of mass production get into your mind? Do you think everyone wants the same child? You're wrong. Do you think scientific labs will continue to create children according to their own desires, and then you have to adopt them? That's mass production, and that's what I don't approve of. You are completely free to choose. Right now, you're completely blind, doing whatever you're doing in utter darkness; you're just a blind slave to biology.

Don't you want to be free from blind biology? Don't you want to transcend this foolish obsession with the idea that a child must be born from your sperm and your wife's egg? Those eggs don't know to whom they belong, and what's so special about your sperm? You know absolutely nothing about it. You have no idea what kind of being is struggling inside you to be born. You have no choice; you are merely a slave.
