Session 2: Using the ARC model to improve your coaching
Introduction
In this session you will have the opportunity to explore in some detail three of the six ARC principles that were briefly introduced in Session 1. These are:
- developing your self-awareness and reflection
- building culturally competent relationships
- adapting your practice to meet different cultural needs.
These three principles relate specifically to the type of support that coaches and those in other roles in youth sport can operate more effectively and inclusively, with some practical ideas designed to enhance their interactions and develop more meaningful, trusting relationships with players and their families. Along the way you will hear again from coaches Sully and Asad who share their experiences and challenges of developing some of these principles in their coaching. Look out for some simple, practical top tips that can be used to embed the three ARC principles into everyday coaching practice, the support of young players and shaping longer-term planning/goals.
