This free course, Human Resource Management and EDI, will highlight why equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are key for the practice of Human Resource Management (HRM) today. This includes the promotion of the following dimensions in the workplace: fairness and equity, diversity and innovation, talent management, and legal compliance. Furthermore, this course will also show HR professionals how to embed EDI in the workplace, especially through HR policies and training.

This OpenLearn course is an adapted extract from the Open University course B810 The role of the human resource professional, which forms part of the OU’s MSc in Human Resource Management.

Course learning outcomes

After studying this course, you should be able to:

reflect on the link between the role of HR and HR practice and EDI
discuss how EDI is important to organisations and how each element supports, but is different from, the others
debate how and why EDI relates to the role of a professional HR practitioner
understand key HR policies and training in relation to EDI.

I recently completed this course, and I must say it was an excellent learning experience. The course content was well-structured, easy to follow, and highly informative. Each module was designed in a way that gradually built my understanding, making even complex topics feel simple and manageable.

What I appreciated the most was the clarity of the explanations and the practical approach used throughout the course. The examples and real-life applications helped me connect theory with practice, which made the learning process much more engaging and effective.
