This free course is a general introduction to the frozen planet, including the temperature in the polar regions; the energy from the Sun and the seasons; reading and understanding graphs and maps; and how the Arctic and Antarctic regions are defined.
Course learning outcomes
After studying this course, you should be able to:
demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the core concepts in physics, biology, chemistry, geology and basic mathematics that underpin our understanding of the polar world
demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the processes and interactions (physical, biological, chemical and geological) which shape the polar environment at different temporal and spatial scales
express concepts in an objective and factually correct way
make sense of information presented in different ways, including textual, numerical or graphical material.
I enjoyed this short course as it is also topical (with much discussion about Global Warming in the news). However, the module seeks to define where our frozen areas are really located: and how it defines them! No doubt the boundaries may change with time in the light of the overall global climate.
