What has Zac learnt about the OU here?
I was aware of the enabling housewives and others who came from backgrounds where University was considered; "not for the likes of you". I was also aware of the work done with prisoners but was fascinated to hear a student enthusing that it was a bigger buzz than robbing banks,
Also having studied some OU modules for my Masters, I was aware of the high quality of the materials and the excellent tutor support. I have used these materials repeatedly when teaching A Level and having students that required further depth.
What took me back was the sheer scale of the Open University. I've studied at 3 Universities (if you don't count various MOOCs) and the OU was most suited to my way of studying and also fitting in with work and other commitments.
After years in IT and 2 decades in teaching, I believe I could bring all my skills and knowledge together to be a tutor of great impact. I've been lucky to have several teachers in my life who really made a difference. In teaching I try to be that teacher for as many students as I can. To set them on a path of discovery, engage their curiosity and enable them to be life long learners.
