My biggest obstacle in order to publish my most recent work has been my co-author. Having reviews and comments from everyone but your co-author can be really exhausting. As it was exploratory research published results are needed, not only for us but also for the scientific community that would use it to further understand that. Other than that having a research center and a university behind your back gives you all the tools you might need for the publication process.
