Create a personal profile in our course group page:

Introduce yourself to your peers and tell us something about yourself. During this course you will be asked to come back and edit your profile and add more information in small practical assignments.

This is how it works:
  1. Add a new entry to this course group page to create a profile. Type your name in the 'concept' field.
  2. Add some information about yourself in the description field. Let us know who  you are, what you like and what brought you here!
  3. If you like you can add a profile picture or a short videoclip.
  4. And don't forget to tell us what open science animal you are!
  5. If you want, you can add comments to your peers' profiles. Or say 'hello!'

Let's create a word cloud together!

Tell us your discipline and see how many different disciplines are represented in this course!

Aina Estany

Hey there! I am Aina Estany from Barcelona.

I have a background in Biomedicine, but instead of foucsing on lab research I did a master on International health and Education.

I am currently working in a Living Lab on projects that are in line with RRI principles and that aim to transform systems in collaboration with different stakeholders.

according to the test, I am a Meerkat!

Nice to meet you all! :)

Alex

I am involved in bioinformatics training and aim at spreading and teaching the importance of Open Science

I originally studied biology and my PhD is in the genetics of maternal effects. Since then I have mostly worked in education, currently as Training Coordinator at the Office of Scholarly Communication at the University of Cambridge. I support researchers to make their research more open, publish effectively and manage data well. I am an open science meerkat!

Ben

Hi all,

Ben from U of Edinburgh (CVS department, QMRI), interested in getting together with a group of likeminded people to discuss open science.

Ben Libberton

I'm Ben and apparently I'm an Open Science Mole because I love digging through stuff and can immerse myself in a topic. I hope to do that with Open Science here.

I'm a researcher turned full time science communicator and open access plays a big role in my work. I'm based in Stockholm.

Charlotte Coales

Hi, I have a background in ecology and science communication, and work in public engagement at a zoology research institute.  I support our staff and students to engage with a variety of audiences.  I hadn't heard of Open Science until last week(!) and thought it would be useful and interesting to find out more.

I am a meekat!

Undergoing a PhD in Biotechnology in Ireland, have completed my undergraduate in Genetics, with a heavy emphasis on Bioinformatics as well. I love science communication, and look forward to learning how to effectively convey my ideas to a variety of audiences, including lay people with little science background. Currently in my first year of my four year PhD in University College Dublin. I am apparently an Open Science Unicorn, full of myth and magic haha. My ORCID is https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0147-9810

Hi! I am an organic chemist, have been travelling around Europe working with the sweetest molecules, sugars!

I am a Meerkat, and it couldn't have been a more appropriate definition of the way I work, and my vision of science.

Corrado Minetti

Hello!

I am a researcher in parasitology and medical entomology, working in the United Kingdom. Originally from Italy, I am currently working on malaria in mosquitoes.

I have a parallel interest in science communication, and I registered in this course to get more insights which I hope will help me to better promote and disseminate my research.

According to the quiz, I am a mole!

Biologist. Philosopher. Currently working as science communicator. Interested in open science as seen from different perspectives. What does a scientist consider 'open'? What is the social value and ethical imperative for/of open science? And how do we communicate it best to the public and/or make it available?

Hiya

Hi, better late than never... I'm Maruxa, one more Meerkat! I'm an Open Science believer, I've worked in an Open Access journal, and I am currently training students on data management, so I'd like to be up to date with OS practices! Also, I'm in the process of creating a MOOC (on another topic) and I've never taken one, so that's another reason to be here.

I'm interested in molecular biology, how it relates to disease pathology and treatment, and how we communicate this to the public.

I have a background in Biochemistry, Cancer immunology and Computational Chemistry. Currently a postgraduate research student at the University of Southampton, I am looking to go into some form of science communication when I graduate next year.

My OpenScience animal is a squirrel.

Hi all, I am currently in my final year of my PhD in Pharmacology in University College Dublin. My project has focused on generating kidney organoids to study epigenetic processes in diabetic kidney disease. I first learned about open science/data during my masters course where one of my lecturers was a huge advocator of open science within the microscopy field. I am taking this course to learn how I can apply those ideals to my own work.

My open science animal is the meerkat.

Hi all,

I am a bit late to the party, but better late than never!

I am usually working in the lab as a PhD student in Neuroscience, but currently I am pursuing a short internship at an organization aiming to help bridge the gap between science and the public (V&A, in Stockholm).

I am looking forward to learn more about open science and implement my findings when I am back at my lab bench.

Cheers,
