Accessing Research Articles

Accessing scholarly literature is a big problem. Sometimes, when we find a good article abstract from google, we are not able to get the full article as the institute does not have access to that journal. Then we have to check with colleagues in other institutes who has access to that particular journal in order to get the full article (or in some cases, we never get to access the article at all). Its really very frustrating and time consuming. Thus, I strongly believe that all journals should have open access.
Also, there must not be any limitation of words and figures in journals so that some important facts and figures does not get eliminated just because of word or space limitation. This can be done if all the journals publish electronic issue rather than hard copies.

Hi,

try to write to an author of that article that you would like to learn more about his work but you can't get access to his article. He can send you the text of the article (before journal formatting). The authors are usually happy that there is somebody who thinks their work is useful for his research.

Yes, Most of the Authors gladly share their work.

I requested to a number of Authors during my Master’s program and some helped. The reputed Authors either fairly get time to respond or knowingly ignore to share their work believing lack of access increases their credibility.

Open Access is indeed very helpful.

Great suggestion; if you contact the corresponding author, they are very often happy to send you a copy of the manuscript.  They are allowed to do that.  Although, it's totally time consuming to do this!  And oftentimes, folks will no longer have that email address if they've moved to a different institution.  Too many hurdles in this process!!

I would agree with this statement as I have encountered the same issue in the past. I eventually decided to collaborate with another institution who had more subscriptions than I. I would agree with making all data and information related to it freely available.
