Multiple institutions

What should a researcher do if their data is produced under the support of multiple institutions with different policies for open data (especially in international environments)? Is custom licensing an option?

Hi Natacha

Great question. I think custom licenses are possible but not easily implemented. I did find some information on it here: http://www.dcc.ac.uk/resources/how-guides/license-research-data#x1-7000

I think this demonstrates the importance of a data management plan when the research begins, so that all the contributors can agree compromises. You could of course try and to a DMP anyway and see if there is any possibility for agreement on a single license.

Thank you so much! I agree, it comes to show the importance of the data management plan, it's much easier to have an agreement from the get go!
