That's all folks!

Dolphins

This is the final seed message in the forum, well done on getting this far. We hope that you have enjoyed the course and found it interesting, informative and - perhaps - challenging in places. We also hope that the course delivered what we promised at the beginning and that you...

"...learn(ed) about the Open University's model of distance teaching, specific information about how the School of Computing and Communications delivers its curriculum, and practical information about the tutor role."

We also hope that you feel more confident in what you can contribute as an OU tutor, that you have identified which module(s) interest you and that you are ready to complete your application form. You will find the OU Tutor vacancies page at https://www.open.ac.uk/jobs/tutors/

So, from Ana, Ann, Chris, Chris, Christine, David, Diane, Indra, Jenny, Kate Nigel, and Vic - good luck with the application, so long and thanks for all the fish!

Thanks team, really enjoyed it. Never been in touch with the OU before, so I will enjoy my badge.

Glad some of the team are 'Hitchhiker's' fans. I also recommend The Cyberiad if you are into comedy Sci-Fi.

thanks again

David

Section 2

I am amazed at how much thought and preparation has gone into designing this course, I think that any future tutor what ever role you may play in education should actually take the pdf version of this course and keep it with you as a reference, I will take more than six hours completing this course as I am still absorbing the information.

The one word that comes to mind is teamwork, in the OU as an AL 'yes' you are responsible for your students but the backup behind you is key, from what I have read with the OU in section 2, it is not just backup, but enthusiastic backup, you want to do the best for your students of course, you want to help your students achieve, but advice is available from your line manager, your mentor and other teams like student support, this is a setup students will not see but it is a marvellous way for helping them in their advancements in academic studies and assist them to achieve their greatest potential.

Well spoken Brian. I was equally amazed at the resources that OU has made available here through the effort of the tutors. I just keep adding the pdfs to my collections as they will come handy.

Thank you so much, I have 2 years left on my undergraduates and teaching was a possibility for me for the future, it was really good to be able to have a taster, for teaching and level 3 too, as I am yet to start level 3 (October yay!), hoping all my hard work health wise pays off over the next 2 years so I can excel and consider seriously teaching a level 1 module.

Thank for all the time and input, from attendees and organisers, its been an awesome experience that I have devoured over a longer timescale than the suggested 6 hrs (I like to take my time to communicate :-D)

Thank you, this was a great course, very well designed.  I kept thinking about it and wanting to come back to it, and finally today I just made the time to finish it so I will stop using it as a reason to put off other tasks!

Best wishes,  good luck with recruitment!

I have found this course so interesting and will look out for appointments at my level, but before I do my assessment, will I still have access to this course after I receive my badge, I feel if I do become an OU AL there are so many good videos from existing tutors on how the OU tutoring works and the problems that they faced it would be amiss not to listen to their experiences again.

Hi Brian,

I subscribed to the discussion forum before completing and can access it easily via my emails now. Hope that helps :-D

Hi Brian,

Really glad that you enjoyed the course, and a good point about being able to revisit the materials.

I am currently trying to find out if continued access to the course is a thing, so I will get back to you on that.

Happy danceSorry for the delay in responding Brian but we wanted to be absolutely certain of some little details.

".....will I still have access to this course after I receive my badge"

Yes. The materials will be available for the foreseeable future. They will be "refreshed" if and when necessary but we don't envisage taking the course down for any extended periods. There is certainly no intention to lock people out because they've completed the course.

Does that answer your question?

Hi,

I enjoyed the course and I think I will apply for a computing module and math's module. Is this possible?

Regards,

Adrian

Glad that you enjoyed it Adrian - Please apply for any and all which might be of interest. I've noticed that participants have been singling it down to one module but if you are interested (and qualified) for a range of modules it's better to apply for more rather than putting all of your eggs in a single basket. And we don't mind if you apply to our colleagues in Maths & Stats :)

Good Evening

Just completed the course and it was extremely useful in helping to prepare for my upcoming interview. Furthermore, it has given me an insight into how tutors are expected to teach and it is great to see the use of some inclusive and engaging teaching strategies.

I am looking forward to forming part of a forward thinking team, If I am fortunate enough to gain employment on one or more of the Open University modules.

Thank you for taking the time to put together this course.

Tutoring for the OU

After completing this course I am very keen to work again as an AL tutor for the OU.  I have been working in a traditional institution and would like to take it further and tutor for the OU.  When teaching throughout lockdown online I got on really well with the students and got into a nice flow of teaching the students, developed a rapport and the students responded well.
