Sometimes the key for unlocking the notion of "fixed intelligence" is hidden in the learning capacity of an individual. In other words; how does an individual learns best? Many teachers are aware of the concept "learning styles" but few actually plan and execute the process while teaching to maximise students' capacities. All students have particular learning styles that work best for them. If these are explored and each learner is ascribed their particular style(s) and the process activated in the engagement, then the notion of "fixed intelligence" will be removed from the teaching-learning experience. Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences come to mind as a useful tool to further augment students' capacities. Let's face it, large class sizes militate against teachers progressive thinking about accommodating diversity in their teaching, thus the inclination to harbour "one-size-fits-all" approach to teaching. One item on teachers' evaluation in Jamaican schools speaks to teachers engagement of students' learning styles....many teachers have fallen short of this expectation in their teaching.
