Inclusive Education Policy

The government’s policy on education in my country is to educate all learners to achieve their full potential and become productive citizens.

A National Policy was developed to ensure that children with disabilities and children who are excluded because of difficulties are included with adequate and appropriate support services. Example: programmes are geared towards varying abilities, and changes were made in teaching methods, curriculum, and environment to meet the needs of all learners.

The impact of this policy is favourable and seemed to be working post Covid 19. Special educators were deployed into the schools to assist children with special needs, testing eyes and ears before entering primary school was being done, new schools were being built with adequate infrastructure. Parents were being supported with grants to help support their special needs child/children. I think more teachers should be sent into schools, more special needs schools should be constructed, and parents should be given more support not just monetary but emotionally and mentally as well.

Regards

That was really great they achieved even during the Pandemic.

Here at my country teachers who work at the special needs Schools they did online classes and it was so difficult for them. They had challenges. But they keep trying all their best.

However, few weeks they started donating some materials for special needs school.

Thank you for sharing Nisher Christopher

You raised a very important point regarding what has been done, especially since the introduction of restrictions due to the pandemic.  The government recognizes that students with special needs are among the most negatively impacted by the pandemic and has been working assiduously, communicating with advocates and caretakers to find workable solutions to the variety of challenges being faced.  The solutions need to be as organic as the nature of the problems, and though frustration sometimes surfaces, it is a sign that more efficient means of providing educational services to all is still an elusive accomplishment and we need to step up further to close the gap.

Agreed, in the secondary system more needs to be done to cater for the varing levels of abilities that exist, some schools lack physical infrastructure such as ramps or even effectively trained personnel.
