Activity 3.3 – “Involving All” in action

Math Lesson

This Teacher is observant. 

He used the pupils language to help the children understand the Mathematics being taught – using ‘pop-sticks’, fingers and numbers. He took the time to help the weaker ones by explaining and making sure they knew what had to be done. I admired his perseverance. He also check the copy books of the younger children giving praise to build their self-esteem.

This teacher is Flexible.

He went from one class teaching Fractions to the lower level counting and adding. He encouraged group work involving all his students, so the stronger ones can help the weaker students. He had to use a variety of languages. When he did not understand a child he would get help from an older child to help him understand. The Teacher is learning as well. To achieve a task – the Teacher broke up the task into smaller activities.

This Teacher Knows How to Raise Self-Esteem

This Teacher used group-work and praise to build his students’ self-esteem and confidence. He used their mother-tongue to make them feel comfortable and cared for in class. From the students expressions I could tell that they enjoyed learning from him.
