I select “Using questioning to Promote Thinking”
Questioning is generally used to find out what students know or learnt and is important in assessing children’s progress.
As a teacher I know that we move students from the known to the unknown therefore when teaching we use what we call their previous knowledge (which is what they know) through experience and build on it.
We find out what they know by asking lower-order questions or recall questions.
To get them to think critically we use high-ordered questions which is done through analysis, drawing hypothesis and evaluation this enable them to become critical thinkers and they become active participant in their own learning and become problem solver.
I can use this idea in my classroom because I want my students to be able to solve problem through thinking critically. This can be done in various lesson. An example of this is when reading a story I can have some open ended questions on some strips of paper prepared before class and place students in a group to read a story and answer open-ended questions this will enable them to think deeply, while interact with each other.
