Weekly hours working

Hi, sorry if this has already come up in previous discussion, but just wondered if anyone knows how many hours a week an OU AL/Tutor works? - I know it said it was part time and flexible but wondered roughly how many?

Thanks!

Hi Ellie,

The number of hours vary for different modules and throughout the presentation of a module.

For example, I have one tutor role that is 3.5 hours per teaching week for a nine-months and another that is 6 hours per week for a module that runs for 6 months, and during that time there may be some weeks where not much time is needed and other weeks where there is a lot of work to do.

Hi, thank you for your reply - that's really helpful to know.

I just thought it must be quite a 'full' part time, as I noticed under most AL job posts on the OU website it says the annual salary is £34,304, - I think that works out on average to be about £660 a week... but it doesn't mention how many hours that would be for?  - it's something I would really love to do in the future, but I wanted to find out if it would be a doable goal! (especially with the recent price rises).

Thank you,

Ellie

Hi Ellie

A job advertisement will show the full time equivalent (FTE) salary and will also state the requirement for that particular role as a percentage. So 1.0 is working full time, and if a vacancy says it is 0.2 FTE then that is a fifth and could be read as a day a week. The annual salary is then paid pro rata.

Hope this helps.
