Overview

What is a data management plan?

If you look at the research data life cycle again it is easy to tell what a Data Management Plan (DMP) is: it is the document that describes and documents sufficiently the collection, processing, storage, archiving, and publication of research data with a research project.

The Data Management Plan contains a lot information about the research project, like

  • Administrative information,
  • Project description,
  • Information on data types, formats and scope,
  • Information on metadata and their standards,
  • Publication planning,
  • Availability of the data,
  • How you plan to archive and back up the data, and
