Find out more about The Open University's Education courses and qualifications.

Linda is a former YXM130 Module Chair, an Open degree graduate and is passionate about supporting people to learn through exploring their personal interests.

If she was to study this module, she would be interested in studying courses to help her better understand her home town of Folkestone, Kent. Her main motivation for this is that she would like to develop a better understanding of the local area.

She would consider studying the OpenLearn courses below to help her discover and understand more about the following:

  • The sea and the local weather as I’m keen to spend lots of time on the beach
  • The local geology as to the east of the town are the white cliffs of Dover and some great beaches for fossil hunting.
  • How Dungeness power station works and what the risks are.
  • French as  you can stand on the cliffs in Folkestone and see Boulogne in France on the other side. France and England are linked by the Channel tunnel and regular ferry services, so learning the language would come in handy if she decided to visit France.
  • Key political issues in the town including Brexit and people crossing the border.
