5 Inherited disorders of haemoglobin
In the previous section, you saw that erythrocytes and the haemoglobin they contain play a crucial role in mediating exchange of both O2 and CO2 between the tissues and the lungs. This section will use two examples, sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia, to illustrate how genetic disorders of haemoglobin can affect gas transport and exchange in the body.
