Essential skills for online learning

      This resource, developed by The University of Manchester Library, will help you to develop skills to get the most out of being an online learner. 

      ESOL is self-paced and designed to fit around your schedule; you can work through it in short bursts of 15 minutes, or longer sessions if you prefer. You can complete it in any order, and you can choose to complete only the topics which are relevant to you.

    • Course learning outcomes

      By the end of the course users will be able to:

      • Recognise the need for organisation, communication and collaboration in online learning
      • Develop a flexible and individual timetable with a realistic schedule of learning activities to make best use of your time
      • Employ strategies to overcome procrastination
      • Recognise writing as a primary means of communicating online
      • Use a writing strategy to help you to communicate effectively and critically engage with your course material
      • Develop skills and strategies for successful collaboration, and anticipate some of the barriers
