I share many similarities with the teachers mentioned, but as a migrant teacher in Mae Pa, I relate most closely to Teacher Phyu Phyu from Mae Sot. We have similar experiences, such as concerns about policies. Even though we have migrant teacher cards, our status is not fully legal, and there is always a risk of being questioned or arrested. We also face challenges such as crowded classrooms.
One of the biggest challenges I face in my classroom is the heat and overcrowding. During the summer, a small classroom with more than 20 students becomes extremely hot. Around 1–2 p.m., after lunch, many students lose concentration and feel very sleepy due to the heat and food. To manage this, I include more physical movement activities during that time. Instead of lecturing, I have students give presentations, work in groups, role plays and participate in small group discussions.
I genuinely enjoy every aspect of my job. Each step brings me satisfaction—from understanding students’ prior knowledge, to delivering lessons that meet their needs, to finding ways to keep them engaged and active. I also value receiving feedback from students about what they have learned and how I can improve my teaching. These steps are not easy and require careful planning and critical thinking, but knowing that my students are learning and growing always gives me motivation and a strong sense of purpose.
