3.5 The principles of a good learning environment
Even in challenging contexts with few resources, it is important to pay attention to the principles of a good learning environment. In this video, we see how teacher Moe Moe Oo maximises the resources available in a migrant learning centre to foster a good learning environment.
In the video, Moe Moe Oo embedded the following principles of active learning to help create a safe, inclusive and interactive learning environment:
- Bringing learners together to prepare for learning as a group (using a poem);
- Making resources for students to use to focus their attention in an exercise;
- Creating a competitive game ;
- Engaging every learner in doing something to help the class learn (imitating animal sounds while learning the names of the animals in English);
- Using a quiet exercise to bring learners together after an activity
