3.6 Putting principles into action
In the video, we see examples of teachers discussing the principles they value, such as compassion, respect and integrated learning. We see how they model respect and compassion towards the students, and how they put the principle of integrated learning into action in the classroom.
The teachers demonstrate how they embed these principles in their teaching, even with limited resources. For example, in a science class, the students learn how yeast causes a cake to rise by setting the temperature correctly when cooking or baking. In maths classes they learn to calculate how much money they need to purchase ingredients for the cake, and they work out how much they should sell the cakes for. Then they apply all this learning by baking cakes and selling them. The students use the profits from their cake sale to provide supplies and run events for disadvantaged children in the community.
