Using the learning types in teaching

Reflecting on a recent session where I was the teacher, I followed the five stages of a lesson plan. First, I let the students explore the topic I was going to teach. After assessing their prior knowledge, I explained the topic in more depth. I also used visual diagrams to help them understand the lesson better.

Sometimes, I prefer individual work because I want to check each student’s level of understanding. When they do not understand something, they come and ask me, which helps build a better relationship between the teacher and students.

However, I also prefer group work because it allows students to gain different ideas from their friends. In this way, they improve their teamwork skills and learn to accept others’ good ideas. I believe that individual work is also important within group work. When they complete assignments in groups, they learn how to be responsible individuals.

Lastly, I ask them what we learned that day and give yes/no questions related to the topic to check their understanding.
