Learning and understanding theory helps teachers better understand students’ needs and backgrounds. It allows teachers to see what is happening in students’ lives outside the classroom. Most of the time, teachers focus on preparing lesson plans, delivering lessons, and then using test or exam results to measure how much students have learned. This is a normal process.
However, understanding theory encourages teachers to think more deeply. Instead of only focusing on results, teachers begin to ask questions such as: Why is the student not listening? Why is the student sleepy? Why does the student look uncomfortable? These issues may not be caused only by the lesson itself.
There can be many other factors, such as relationships, personal problems, family situations, environment, or even social media. By understanding these factors, teachers can respond more effectively and support their students in a more meaningful way.
