My name is Ler Bwe Poe (Liam), and I come from a migrant/refugee community shaped by the political, social, and economic challenges that have affected Myanmar for many years. Many families in this area, including mine, arrived because conditions in Myanmar, such as corruption, inequality, injustice, and limitations in the education system, made it difficult or even impossible for people to live stable and secure lives. However, what I have observed is that some of the same patterns that existed in Myanmar have also been reproduced in migrant settings. In particular, the education environment in migrant communities often reflects similar challenges, including limited resources, inconsistent management, and structural inequalities that affect students’ learning opportunities. Through this course on Education in Conflict and Crisis Settings, I hope to deepen my understanding of why these patterns continue to appear even outside the original context of crisis. I am especially interested in learning how educators and communities can transform these systems so that migrant education becomes not only a place of refuge, but also a place of quality, fairness, and meaningful opportunity for young people.
