In my opinion, this lesson plan is well organized and includes production, practice, collaboration, and acquisition. It would work well if students already have some ideas about what they want to do in the future. However, when working with migrant and refugee students, one challenge I often face is that many of them do not yet know what they want to do. Most of them come to school to receive an education, but without a clear purpose or direction.
Because of this, I believe it would be more effective to begin with the acquisition stage by giving presentations and showing videos about different career options. From my experience, many students say they want to become teachers or farmers because these are the only jobs they have seen in their environment. This shows that their choices are limited by what they know.
In my view, it is important to introduce students to a wider range of careers. We need to show them that there are many more opportunities beyond what they see in their daily lives. If possible, it would be very useful to take students to real workplaces such as factories, cafés, restaurants, or other local businesses so they can explore different jobs for themselves. This kind of real-world exposure can help them understand their interests better.
After that, we can continue with the lesson plan as designed. In this way, I believe students’ hopes and dreams will become broader and more diverse. It is always better for students to have more than one possible path in life and to have real opportunities to discover who they are beyond the limits of their environment.
