Theory in practice

Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory helps teachers see that students’ learning and wellbeing are shaped by many layers around them. In contexts of conflict and displacement, the microsystem  such as family, peers, and school may be disrupted. The mesosystem such as connections between home and school could  weakened.  The exosystem such as community, services might be limited and the last is  the macrosystem such as culture, politics, economy  may be unstable. By understanding these levels, teachers can better recognize why students struggle or show resilience.

This theory can guide every teacher to look beyond classroom behavior and notice how family stress, community support, or cultural identity affect learning. It also will helps all the teacher to create safe, supportive lessons, build strong relationships, and empower students despite challenges in their wider environment.
