Theory in practice

Bronfenbrenner’s theory helps teachers understand that a student’s learning and wellbeing are influenced by multiple situations, from family and peers (microsystem) to connections between home, school, and community (mesosystem), and even broader cultural, social, and policy factors (exosystem and macrosystem). Life can changes in any situation like displacement or conflict (chronosystem) also affect students over time. By considering all these factors, teachers can build stronger connection with students, better support students emotionally and academically in any challenging contexts.
