Space for listening to learners

Do you have activities or routines that you use regularly to create space for listening to learners?

I usually use playing activities such as one by one student talk about what was their grateful for in a day for 15 minutes before the class started.

I might give free time to say or to do whatever they want once a time within teaching time. I will give them time to discuss in a group work and make sure what was their purpose of discussion and what mostly they emphasis and discuss about. So that I can understand some to the thing about what can be their words in their mind.
