Over the past two weeks, I have not been able to fully implement all the ideas in a formal classroom setting yet, but I have started applying some of the concepts in small ways within my teaching practice. One thing I tried to focus on was becoming more aware of the different factors affecting students beyond the classroom, as suggested by the Ecological Systems Theory. Instead of looking only at students’ behaviour or academic performance, I tried to think more carefully about what might be happening in their lives that could influence their learning, especially in contexts affected by displacement and instability.
I also planned to start paying more attention to creating a supportive and respectful classroom atmosphere. For example, during my lessons I encouraged students to share their thoughts more openly and tried to listen more carefully to their responses. This helped me better understand their confidence levels, learning difficulties, and emotional states.
Moving forward, I plan to apply these ideas more intentionally by designing activities that allow students to express their experiences, thoughts, and goals. I also want to continue using questioning and discussion techniques that help students feel heard and supported, which I believe is an important foundation for both effective learning and social and emotional development.
